  3.     AMTOR Operation
  4.  
  5.         XPCOM supports all normal modes of AMTOR operation, including
  6.         ARQ, FEC and SELFEC. It also incorporates ARQ and FEC listen
  7.         modes.
  8.  
  9.         Initiating an ARQ Link
  10.  
  11.             To initiate an AMTOR ARQ link use the following steps.
  12.  
  13.             1. Press the Alt-A keystroke sequence. If the TNC is in a
  14.                different operating mode you will be requested to confirm
  15.                the mode change.
  16.  
  17.             2. Enter the SELCAL of the other station and press the
  18.                return key. If the link is successful, send your call 
  19.                and name to the other station. If the call sign of the 
  20.                station has been entered using the F2 function key, the 
  21.                SELCAL field will have a default Selcal.
  22.  
  23.         Turning the Link Over
  24.  
  25.             1. The 'Page Down' key will send the standard "+?"
  26.                sequence used in AMTOR communications.
  27.  
  28.             2. Or use the 'END' key at the end of any transmission to
  29.                turn the link back to the other station. The definition
  30.                of the end key is user definable, see operating
  31.                parameters screen in the setup menu.
  32.  
  33.         To Drop an Unsuccessful Link
  34.  
  35.             1. If the link is unsuccessful you should drop the link
  36.                as soon as possible as to eliminate unnecessary
  37.                interference to other stations.
  38.  
  39.             2. To drop press the 'HOME' key. This will immediately
  40.                drop the link and return the TNC to AMTOR standby mode.
  41.  
  42.         Identifying during an AMTOR contact
  43.  
  44.             XPCOM has a very simple way of adding the call signs of the
  45.             stations during an AMTOR contact.
  46.  
  47.             1. Press the F2 key and enter the call of the other
  48.                station.
  49.  
  50.             2. After the call has been entered it may be imbedded
  51.                into the outgoing text by pressing 'Alt-I'. This will
  52.                place 'Othercall DE Yourcall' (W0AAA DE W0BBB) into the
  53.                outgoing text buffer. The Alt-I sequence is user
  54.                definable see Ident Text in the operating parameters
  55.                screen located in the Setup Menu.

  58.                The END key is also defined within the operating
  59.                parameters and can be used for passing the link back to
  60.                the other station.

  62.         Ending an ARQ Contact
  63.  
  64.             1. To end an ARQ contact press the F4 function key. This
  65.                will send "DROPPING LINK DE YourCall" and also send the
  66.                appropriate commands to the TNC. The F4 sequence is user
  67.                definable see Drop Link Text in the operating parameters
  68.                screen located in the Setup Menu.

  70.      FEC Communications
  71.  
  72.          To start an FEC transmission, place the TNC in AMTOR Standby.
  73.          To do this, press the 'Alt-L' key sequence. If the TNC comes up
  74.          in AMTOR Listen mode, press the 'Alt-L' sequence again.

  76.         To place the TNC in FEC Transmit

  78.                 Press the Page Up key to go the transmit mode.

  80.         To go to Receive

  82.                 Press the Page Down Key.

  85.         Calling CQ for an ARQ Link
  86.  
  87.                 To call an automatic CQ press the F5 function key. This
  88.                 will start the CQ sequence as described in the Setup
  89.                 Menu section of this document. To abort the CQ press any
  90.                 key.

  92.                 If a station links to you, an alarm will sound and the
  93.                 auto CQ will be aborted.
  94.  
  95.     TMAIL Operation
  96.  
  97.     XPCOM Version 1.4 and above now supports TMAIL for those AEA
  98.     controllers that have the mailbox option. The TMAIL status is shown
  99.     in the center status bar. To change the state of TMAIL (ON or OFF),
  100.     click on the status bar or press Alt-J.
